PAKISTAN NAVY SHIP RAH NAWARD VISIT TO TURKEY

The Ship is on the way to participate in the Black Sea Regatta. Race is scheduled from Varna, Bulgaria till Novorossiysk, Russia. Race will be starting off Varna on 3 May 2014 and will finish off Novorossiysk on 9 May 2014. The race is organized by the Sail Training International (STI). There are 23 vessels participating in the Regatta in different categories.

PNS Rah Naward is Pakistan’s first Tall Ship commissioned in Pakistan Navy on 23 September 2010. The ship is 59.35 meter in length and displaces 498 tonnes of water. Its cruising speed is 7-8 knots on engines and 13 knots under sails. Ship is being commanded by Captain Azfar Humayun PN. Ship has a crew of 63 officers and men. Ship is also carrying young trainees from Pakistan Navy, Royal Saudi Naval Force (RSNF) and Turkish Navy. While enroute to Canakkale, Ship has paid goodwill visits to Salalah(Oman), Port of Sudan(Sudan) and Alexandria(Egypt).After finishing the race, Ship will visit Turkish ports of Istanbul and Izmir.

These friendly visits by PNS Rah Naward to three Turkish ports will further strengthen existing bilateral ties between the two countries. Reciprocatory visits of high level defence delegations, exchange training programmes and visits of naval units are a regular feature of Turkey-Pakistan defence relations. Turkish Frigate TCG Gelibolu recently visited Karachi from 6-9 April 2014 and participated in various naval exercises with Pakistan Navy.
