Defence Day of Pakistan and Kashmir Solidarity Day commemorated in Turkey

ANKARA, 6 September 2019: Pakistan Embassy Ankara today organized an event to mark the Defence Day of Pakistan, which this year is also being commemorated as the Kashmir Solidarity Day. Members of the Pakistan community, Turkish guests and media representatives attended the event.

The event was preceded by Quran Khwani, followed by prayers for Kashmiris living in the Indian Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IOJ&K) who continue to face a grave human rights and humanitarian crisis. The complete lockdown and communications blockade of IOJ&K has now reached its 32ndday without any respite from the collective, arbitrary and collective punishment being meted out to innocent Kashmiri men, women and children by the Indian Occupation Forces.

During the event, participants expressed their solidarity with the people of IOJ&K, and reiterated their resolve to continue supporting the just struggle of the people of Jammu & Kashmir for their right to self-determination.

Speaking on the occasion, the Ambassador of Pakistan, M. Syrus Sajjad Qazi, said that the event symbolized the determination and resolve of the people of Pakistan to stand by their Kashmiri brothers and sisters in this hour of great pain and grief. He added that on 6 September 1965, the entire Pakistani nation had come together to show to the world that it would always stand for truth and justice and would not hesitate from any sacrifice to uphold its freedom, independence and sovereignty. He said that the Kashmir Solidarity Day was also being commemorated along with the Defence Day of Pakistan in the same spirit.

Ambassador Qazi expressed the hope that the international community, in particular the United Nations Security Council, UN human rights procedures and mechanisms, as well as independent human rights observers would fulfil their moral and legal responsibility towards taking a serious note of and ending the ongoing Indian atrocities towards Kashmiris seeking their right to self-determination.
