Remarks by Ambassador Syrus Sajjad Qazi at Awards Ceremony for “Jinnah Young Writers Award” at Ankara on 28 September 2018

Excellency Ziya Selçuk, Minister for National Education,

Distinguished guests, teachers, parents, and dear students!

Assalam-u-Alaikum

At the outset, I wish to thank His Excellency Minister Ziya Selçuk for gracing this occasion as the Chief Guest.

Today is another happy moment in Pakistan-Turkey relations as we honor the winners of the Jinnah Young Writers Award for the third consecutive year.

This achievement was made possible through the tireless efforts of Ms. Funda Kocabiyik and her dedicated team at the Ministry of National Education.

Named after Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan, this essay competition forms a key feature of our public diplomacy efforts.
Jinnah played a pivotal role in reinforcing the eternal brotherhood between the Turkish and Pakistani nations.

We are also aware of the spiritual connections between Mohammad Iqbal and Mevlana Rumi, and Iqbal and Mehmet Akif, which enormously enriched these bonds

This year, 78 shortlisted essays from 44 provinces were evaluated for awards.

The deep thinking, high quality information, and passion and perspective contained in these essays are valuable contribution to the Pakistan-Turkey relationship.

My sincere felicitations to the winners, their hard-working teachers, and their proud families.

I am happy to share that we have compiled and published all the shortlisted essays for the 2016 and 2017 competitions.

Our key objective in instituting Jinnah Award is to reach out to the younger generation and acquaint them with the glorious tradition of Pakistan-Turkey relations. It may be support during the Wars of Independence, or assistance in the face of natural calamities, or solidarity on Cyprus and Kashmir.

The vision of the leadership in both countries is to transform our historic relationship into a strong strategic partnership.

Thank you! Long live Pakistan-Turkey brotherhood!
