Remarks by Ambassador Syrus Sajjad Qazi at the Pakistan Mango Festival at Embassy Residence at Ankara on 14th August 2018

Honourable Ali Şahin, Chairman Pakistan-Turkey Parliamentary Friendship Group,
Excellencies,
Distinguished Guests,
Ladies & Gentlemen!

A very warm welcome to Pakistan House!

It is a pleasure and privilege to have you here with us this evening to celebrate the Mango Festival together.

We Pakistanis call Mango the King of Fruits.

And His Majesty has decided to grace us with His presence once again, on a day as special as today, since August 14thalso marks the Independence Day of Pakistan.

Distinguished guests,

Pakistan is the 5thlargest producer of mangoes in the world, and the 6thlargest exporter.

To us Pakistanis, Mango is not only a fruit but is also an integral part of our history and rich culture.

There are over 110 varieties of high quality mangoes – including Sindhri, Anwar Retaul, Lungra, Malda, Dusehri, Fajri and others.

Chaunsa is the most popular variety – and we are serving the White Chaunsa today – as its season lasts from July to August.

In our endeavours to bring the Pakistani mangoes to the Turkish markets, we have been hosting this Mango Festival for 4 years now and each time it´s better than before.

As I conclude, I wish to extend our deep gratitude to Swissotel Ankara, for their collaboration in making this Mango Festival possible.

We have selected music, samples of Pakistani cuisine, and lots of mangoes and mango-based products to cater to your spiritual and culinary tastes.

Please enjoy the evening and thanks once again!
