September 2015: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan and the
Higher Education Council (YÖK) of Turkey have reaffirmed the commitment to
further intensify their mutual collaboration and promote deeper links between
the institutions of higher learning in the two countries. The reaffirmation came during the
meeting between Pakistan’s Ambassador to Turkey Mr. Sohail Mahmood and the YÖK
President, Prof. Dr. M.A. Yekta Saraç, in Ankara.
The discussions
covered a broad range of subjects including strengthening the legal framework
for increased HEC-YOK cooperation, exchange of high-level visits, increased
interaction between Rectors/Vice Chancellors on both sides, steady follow-up on
MoUs on collaboration between Turkish and Pakistani Universities, and faculty
and student exchanges. Views were also exchanged on the establishment of
Teknoparks in relevant Pakistani universities.
Currently, there are more than 1100 Pakistani students studying in various Turkish Universities, including a sizeable number under HEC scholarships. The endeavor on both sides is to facilitate further increases of Pakistani and Turkish students in their respective universities.
