Pakistan Day Reception held in Ankara - Pakistan Milli Günü Resepsiyonu Ankara’da gerçekleştirildi

ANKARA: 25 March 2013:   To commemorate “Pakistan Day,” the Ambassador of Pakistan to Turkey H.E. Mr. Muhammad Haroon Shaukat hosted a reception on Monday evening. Turkish political and military leadership, parliamentarians, notables, media representatives, Pakistan community and diplomats based in Turkey attended the reception.

Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey Mr. Bulent Arinç, Saadet Parti Genel Secretary Mr. Mustafa Kamalak, Turkish Air, Navel and Gendarmerie Chiefs were prominent among the guests attending.

This year’s reception had an added significance as it also marked the launching of Pakistan’s Cultural Year in Turkey. An exhibition of original paintings by leading Pakistani painters under the theme “In Promotion of the Talented Artists from Pakistan”, display of Pakistani carpets, display of truck art of Pakistan, and Pakistan Food Festival were simultaneously held on 25^th March at the reception venue. Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Bulent Arinç visited the art exhibition and appreciated the skills of Pakistani artists whose paintings depicted Islamic calligraphy and landscapes.

In his speech, Mr. Arınç said that Turkey desires a democratic, stable and prosperous Pakistan and reiterated his Government’s support for Pakistan. He said that the Turkish nation will never forget Pakistan’s help during the Turkish War of Independence. Mr. Arınç said "Turkish nation say 'Cive Pakistan' or 'Zindabad Pakistan' from their hearts."

Ambassador Haroon Shaukat in his speech said a bright future is awaiting for Pakistan. He said Pakistan and Turkey share a unique relationship and we are “two countries one nation.” He reiterated Pakistan’s desire to further strengthen social, cultural and economical ties with Turkey.

Pakistan Milli Günü Resepsiyonu Ankara’da gerçekleştirildi

ANKARA: 25 Mart 2013: Pakistan Milli Günü kutlamaları çerçevesinde Pakistan Büyükelçisi Sayın Muhammed Harun Şevket Pazartesi gecesi bir resepsiyon daveti verdi. Davetliler arasında Türk politik ve askeri liderler, devlet adamları, üst düzey ileri gelenler, medya mensupları, Pakistanlı konuklar ve diplomatlar yer aldı. 

Başbakan Yardımcısı Sayın Bülent Arınç, Saadet Partisi Genel Başkanı Sayın Mustafa Kamalak, Türk Hava, Deniz ve Jandarma Komutanları da konuklar arasındaydı.

Bu seneki resepsiyon aynı zamanda Türkiye’de gerçekleşecek olan Pakistan Kültür Yılı’nın başlangıcı niteliğinde olması nedeniyle ayrı bir önem taşıyordu. Resepsiyonun gerçekleştiği alanda “Pakistanlı yetenekli sanatçılarının tanıtımı” başlığı altında sergilenen ve ünlü Pakistanlı ressamların orjinal eserlerinin yer aldığı bir resim sergisi de tertip edildi. 25 Mart tarihinde aynı alanda Pakistan kamyon sanatının ve yöresel halıların gösteriminin yanısıra, Pakistan Yemek Festival’i de gerçekleşti. Başbakan Yardımcısı Sayın Bülent Arınç İslam kaligrafi sanatının ve çeşitli manzaraların resmedildiği eserleri gezerken Pakistanlı sanatçıların yeteneklerini takdir etti.

Başbakan Yardımcısı Sayın Arınç, resepsiyonda yaptığı konuşmada, Pakistan’ın güvenlik, huzur ve istikrar içinde kalkınmış ve güçlenmiş bir ülke olarak dünya camiasında yer alacağını temenni ettiklerini belirtti. Pakistan’ın Türkiye’nin verdiği bağımsızlık mücadelesinde gösterdiği yardımı hiçbir zaman unutmayacaklarını belirterek Türk halkının bütün gönlüyle 'Cive Pakistan' veya 'Zindabad Pakistan' dediğini belirtti.

Sayın Büyükelçi Harun Şevket ise yaptığı konuşmada Pakistan’ı parlak bir geleceğin beklediğini söyledi. Pakistan ve Türkiye arasında özel ve bensersiz bir ilişkinin olduğunu belirterek, ekonomik, ticari ve kültürel ilişkileri ışık hızıyla güçlendirmek istediklerini kaydetti.  

Pakistan Day Commemorated in Turkey

ANKARA: 23 March 2013:   Pakistan Embassy in Ankara commemorated “Pakistan Day” at a ceremony here today. The Ambassador of Pakistan to Turkey Mr. Muhammad Haroon Shaukat unfurled the Pakistan flag on the tune of National Anthem in presence of the Pakistani community, Pakistani students studying in Turkish Universities and Embassy officials.  The Ambassador read out messages of the President and the Prime Minister of Pakistan.

The President in his message stated that Pakistan Day this year is a memorable day as the democratically elected Parliament and the government for the first time in history completed its constitutionally mandated term and the nation is poised for a democratic transition. He said it is a watershed mark and a giant leap forward in the nation’s quest for democracy, federalism and constitutionalism for which Pakistan was created.

Seventy three years ago on this day the Muslims of the subcontinent resolved to achieve a separate homeland for themselves and then set out to actually achieve it within a short span of seven years. It is therefore an auspicious day as it symbolizes the expression of the collective will of the Muslims of the subcontinent and is a reminder of their unity of thought in search of their common destiny, he said.

The Prime Minister in his message said that Pakistan was created through a democratic struggle. He said we are celebrating our national day at a time when the country is heading towards parliamentary elections and the people remain eager and passionate for the conduct of fair, free and transparent polls in the country. This is what Muhammad Ali Jinnah envisaged. He wanted democracy to flourish in Pakistan and its fruits delivered to the people.

Ambassador Haroon Shaukat in his brief speech said that members of the Pakistani community and students are also the Ambassadors of their country and urged them to continue playing their active role in bringing Turkey and Pakistan further closer.

On the 25^th March, the Ambassador will host a Pakistan Day reception where the Turkish leadership, parliamentarians, civil society, media and members of Pakistan community are invited to participate. This year’s reception has an added significance as it would also mark the launching of Pakistan’s Cultural Year in Turkey. Kosovo-Pakistan to cement business ties

Pristina, Kosovo - 21 March 2013:  The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Trade & Industry of Kosovo Ms. Mimoza Kusari Lila here today received Mr. Muhammad Haroon Shaukat, Ambassador of Pakistan to Kosovo, resident in Ankara.

Welcoming the appointment of Mr. Haroon Shaukat, who became the first Ambassador of Pakistan to Kosovo, Ms Mimoza said both countries are now in a position to start formal business relations. She stressed on the need to know the potential strengths of Pakistan and Kosovo by the businessmen of both the countries. She said exploratory reciprocal business visits would set the trend for spearheading commercial ties. It was agreed to encourage the federations of chambers of commerce and industry of both the countries to sign agreements for exchange of information, holding of joint trade fairs, and initiating joint business ventures.

 

Ms Mimoza said Kosovo’s geographical position and its Autonomous Trade Preferences agreement with European Union, through which it enjoys unlimited and duty free access to the EU market for products, would be beneficial for Pakistani investors who can start joint ventures with Kosovo business partners. Kosovo also enjoys GSP from the United States, she added.

Ambassador Shaukat expressed the hope that both the Governments of Pakistan and Kosovo would provide an interface to the private sectors of the respective countries through developing facilitative frameworks that will form the basis of closer economic interaction to the mutual advantage of both the countries.

 

Mr. Haroon Shaukat also invited the Kosovo Deputy Prime Minister to lead a business delegation from her country to attend Expo Pakistan being held in Karachi, Pakistan, from 26-29 September 2013. This forum will provide an opportunity for Kosovo businessmen to explore business prospects and interact with leading Pakistan exporters, he added.

Consul General Istanbul Dr. Yusuf Junaid and Press Attaché of the Pakistan Embassy in Ankara Mr. Abdul Akbar also accompanied the Ambassador.

First Pakistani Ambassador to Kosovo presents Letter of Credence to Kosovo President

Pristina, Kosovo - 20 March 2013:  The President of the Republic of Kosovo Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga here today received the Letter of Credence of H.E. Muhammad Haroon Shaukat, the first Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to the Republic of Kosovo, resident in Ankara, Turkey.

It was an historical occasion as Mr. Shaukat became the first Pakistani Ambassador accredited to Kosovo. Pakistan formally recognized the Republic of Kosovo in December last year which was followed by a visit of President of Pakistan’s Special Envoy in January this year. After the presentation of credentials ceremony, President Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga and Ambassador Haroon Shaukat held a meeting and discussed ways to promote bilateral relations between the two countries.

Ambassador Shaukat conveyed special greetings from the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan to President Atifete. The newly appointed Ambassador reiterated his resolve to work very closely with the Kosovo friends to create a new chapter of special ties with tangible cooperation in the commercial field.

President of Kosovo expressed her gratitude to Pakistan upon their recognition of independence. She said this move by Pakistan was welcomed by the people of Kosovo as Pakistan is an important country having strategic importance. She termed the appointment of Ambassador Haroon Shaukat as a major step towards further consolidating Pak-Kosovo relations in all fields. The Pakistani Envoy said Pakistan granted formal recognition to Kosovo as an independent State in support of the aspirations of the people of Kosovo for independence. 

Earlier, Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr. Enver Hoxhaj, Minister for Economic Development Mr. Besim Beqaj and other senior officials of the Kosovo Government received the new Ambassador. The hosts expressed their great appreciation for the recognition of Kosovo’s independence by Pakistan and evinced keen interest to consolidate relations at political, economic and cultural fields.

The Kosovo Foreign Minister proposed to start exchange of scholarship for students of Pakistan and Kosovo.Mr. Shaukat reiterated Government of Pakistan’s resolve to develop close and brotherly ties with Kosovo. It was agreed to create necessary facilitative framework for promoting commercial relations, encouraging and protecting investments and avoidance of double taxation. Opportunities for collaboration between the two countries in the economy, trade and education fields were discussed.

During his stay in Kosovo, Ambassador Shaukat also held meetings with the President of Chambers & Commerce and leading businessmen. Mr. Shaukat termed the private sector as engine of growth and said his Government will be happy to create interface between the private sectors of Kosovo and Pakistan.

As a country that is aligning its policies and standards as per EU criteria, Kosovo is one of the best countries for Pakistani investors and could be a hub for Pakistan’s commercial activities for EU in general and Balkans region in particular.

Ziyarette konuşan Büyükelçi Muhammad Haroon Shaukat, Pakistan'la Türkiye'nin kardeş ülke olduğunu belirterek, "Biz aslında iki ülke tek milletiz" dedi.

Pakistan'ın ekonomik anlamda sıkıntıları olduğunu anlatan Shaukat, şöyle konuştu: "Pakistan büyük bir ülke. Aşağı yukarı 190 milyon nüfusumuz var. Ekonomik anlamda biraz sıkıntı çekiyoruz. Türk firmaların ülkemizde yatırım yapmalarını isteriz. Ticaret yönünden çok büyük fırsatlar var. 2000 yılında ticaret hacmimiz 1 milyar dolardı, ülke için çok az. İleri zamanlarda katlanarak artacağına inanıyorum. Türkiye ile ticaretimizi geliştirmek istiyoruz. Özellikle Eskişehir'in ticaret konusunda bizimle çok uyumlu olacağını düşünüyorum."

Büyükelçi Shaukat, iki ülke arasında ticaretin geliştirilmesi konusunda ellerinden geleni yapacaklarını kaydetti.

Eskişehir'e ilk defa geldiğini ve çok etkilendiğini anlatan Shaukat, şunları söyledi: "Bana göre, Pakistan'da inşaat, ulaştırma, tarım ve birçok sektörde büyük fırsat var. Bilgisayar yazılımı ve programlama konusunda ilerideyiz. Pakistan büyük, ihtiyaçlarımız da büyük. Eskişehir'e ilk defa geldim ve çok etkilendim. Birçok işi birlikte yapabiliriz. Eskişehir'de iyi üniversiteler var ve çok sosyal bir kent. Pakistan'dan birçok kişi geliyorTürkiye ile ticaret yapmak için. Genelde İstanbul'a uğrayıp oradan geri dönüyorlar. İstanbul'dan sonraEskişehir'i önereceğiz. EGSİAD'a üye firmaların sektördeki yeri çok geniş. Turkey, Pakistan boost military ties

Security analysts and politicians say Turkey and Pakistan have strong military co-operation and many areas of mutual interest.

Turkey and Pakistan are expanding ties through joint military exercises and defense production, building on a long tradition of military co-operation.

Pakistan's defense minister, Syed Naveed Qamar, visited Ankara last week, where he discussed with his Turkish counterparts the possibilities of local production, co-production, and transfer of technology for defense-related products according to the needs of the two countries.

Qamar referred to a recent agreement to build a fleet tanker for Pakistan's navy by Turkish defense firm STM, describing it as "a best model for our future defence co-operation," the Pakistan Embassy said in a statement.

Likewise, Ankara views a project to upgrade F-16 fighter jets of Pakistan undertaken by Turkish Aerospace Industries as a symbol of defence co-operation.

Turkey and Pakistan also decided to raise the level of the High Level Military Dialogue Group, an institutional mechanism that was created in 2002 between the two countries general staffs and has had eight meetings so far.

This week, the two countries began joint military exercises to contribute to defense co-operation and exchange of experience and information on military equipment, according to a statement by the Turkish general staff.

Five Turkish F-16s are participating in the Indus Viper-2013 exercise at the Mushaf Air Base in Punjab province in Pakistan for the first time since 2008. The joint exercise runs from March 4th to March 18th.

Another combined naval military exercise code-named Aman-13 is also being hosted by Pakistan in the Arabian Sea, with participation of Turkish frigate TCG Gokova (F-496), one underwater defense, an underwater assault team and two staff officers.

Naval forces from Pakistan, Australia, Bangladesh, China, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, United Arab Emirates, Britain and the US are taking part in the four-day exercise that ends Friday (March 8th).

The aim of the naval exercise is "to show a common determination against terrorist and criminal events in a naval operating area" and "to contribute to international peace and stability," according to the general staff.

For Aytekin Geleri, terror analyst at the Institute of Strategic Thinking, an Ankara-based think tank, while trying to broaden defense industry links with Pakistan, Turkey, as a NATO member, also has "certain sensitivities" that need to be taken into consideration by Islamabad.

"It's important for Pakistan to respect and closely follow international operations with regard to al-Qaeda and other terror groups," he told SES Türkiye, describing the extended co-operation as "the best way to meet common security needs."

President Abdullah Gul, while meeting with Qamar last week, said, "the whole world recognises the sacrifices of the people and troops of Pakistan in fighting terrorism and extremism," referring to the regional situation.

Geleri said Ankara is keen to extend military projects with Pakistan as the two countries traditionally had close ties.

"However, this co-operation should be in a way that doesn’t damage Turkey's membership obligations with NATO," he added.

Celalettin Yavuz, a Middle East security analyst at the Ankara-based Centre for International Relations and Strategic Analysis, believes that the Pakistani-Turkish defence relationship "is a special one marked by an immense reservoir of goodwill on both sides."

"The thing is our areas of interests are not crossing each other even though there are some topics where the countries don't follow the same policy… But they have never been against each other," he told SES Türkiye.

Even though in the past Turkey offered help to Pakistan to boost anti-terrorism co-operation with neighbouring Afghanistan and other regional countries, Yavuz said Ankara tries to avoid being "a hard-power" in the region.

Speaking to SES Türkiye, Burhan Kayaturk, an AKP deputy and chairman of the Turkey-Pakistan Friendship Group in parliament, highlighted the "strong co-operation potential" between the two countries' defence systems.

Turkey, he added, "has never intended to implement hard power" in the region. Instead it is promoting leadership through "soft power" in diplomacy and the economy.

"However, we can't stay calm when terrorists are targeting us, our people, our partners in the region. Pakistan and Turkey has more potential to work together and address the regional challenges," he added.

On March 5th, the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement to condemn the weekend's bomb attack in Karachi, Pakistan, that left at least 45 people dead and many others wounded.

"We strongly condemn such attacks which are targeting the security and stability of Pakistan, wish God's mercy upon those killed, and offer condolences to the families of the victims, and wish speedy recovery to those wounded," the statement said.

The ministry also underlined that general elections would strengthen Pakistan's democracy, domestic peace and stability.

Pakistani Defence Minister visits Turkish Aerospace Industries

ANKARA, 1 March 2013: Pakistan’s Federal Defence Minister Syed Naveed Qamar and his accompanying defence delegation, who is visiting Turkey at the invitation of his Turkish counterpart, visited Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) near Ankara today. Syed Naveed Qamar discussed potential areas for cooperation in various fields. Possibilities of local production, co-production, and transfer of technology for defence related products according to needs of the two countries were also discussed during the visit.

President and Chief Executive Officer of TAI, Mr. Muharrem Dortkaşli and his colleagues briefed the visiting delegation about the main areas of activities of TAI. Progress on existing defence related projects between Turkey and Pakistan was also reviewed. The delegation later on visited the facilities of aircraft manufacturing, overhauling, and were shown a demonstration of T129 attack helicopter developed by TAI.

Turkish Defence Minister Mr. Ismet Yilmaz and Pakistan Ambassador to Turkey Mr. Muhammad Haroon Shaukat were also present.

The visiting Pakistani delegation offered Juma prayers at the historic Haji Bayram Mosque at Ankara. After the prayers, the Pakistani Defence Minister held a brief meeting with the Turkish Foreign Minister Prof. Dr. Ahmet Davutoğlu.
